I agree. I had the first three CD's, which at the time sounded perfect for me, but as soon as the fourth album came out, I sold them all...I personally best liked the 2nd album as a whole. The third had some really magic moments, but looking back, I feel that something was missing there... And those oversampled Camrina Burana sounds, used by everyone, and THEN Cretu jumped on the bandwagon too... I remember when one half of Coldcut was asked about their most embarrassing part of record collecion, and he said it must be "anything by Enigma". At the time I found it upsetting, but, again, looking back I should agree with him. At the time I thought it was deep with mysticism and stuff, and musically it may still sound OK, but after listening to other bands, Cretu's work just not cutting it. The KLF/early Orb had more ambient feeling and hit singles for the mind, body and soul. Death In June has more mysticism. Laibach has more fanfares. Coil has mmuch more experimentalism. And, while Cretu has a little bit of everything on his music, it may be OK, but he's mostly repeating himself, and on the esoteric side, he's like Dan Brown in literure: the hermit/artist anyone an relate to, he's (all too) normal and business-minded...yet shallow. Plus (on the negative side), Creatu was behind Goombay Dance Band (among others), you know. Giorgio Moroder he is not, I think...

IMHO, the first 3 are the best. The rest is not that good... I've always bought the enigma albums without first listening to them. Btw, the DVD "remember the future" is also worth buying.
