Well, but that would require that we take the clips from original tapes rather than mpeg copies that are not the state-of-the-art quality (mostly to save space, though....)
Be careful what you say there. DVD *is* MPEG. Just a better MPEG (and with less compression) than VCD uses. The K-Front CD-Rs that Marek was making were using quality comparable to VCD. If we encode now in SVCD format (assuming it is as good a DVD), and if we later master a DVD from these SVCD recordings, then we will have lost nothing.
So, who out there got videos on their REAL tapes ? (except Stadium House... guess everyone should have that one...)
Well, that's what Andy original suggested. He's got a White Room master tape, etc. which is great news. Problem is, some people sent their much coveted originals to Marek for him to encode and I think a few people had trouble getting them back! And Andy is obviously trying very hard to not have this turn into another situation like that. If he does eventually find the time to convert the tapes that he already has, and everybody is suitable impressed with the quality etc., *then* maybe the call can be put out for other people to submit their tapes to being digitally encoded. Let's not jump the gun here. Michael
