ok, but my question was: "is illegal to put KLF material for downloading?" maybe i want to put some files for sharing
Technical copyright lasts for 50 years afaik, and regarding the 1987 LP, Kopyright Liberation was about sampling from other people, because they had already stolen it from others anyway. It was not about getting records without paying for them. But I guess you can't apply normal copyrights in this case - this is more a philosophical question. They deleted their whole back catalogue, knowing that - at least in the UK - they would not be able to sell their records anymore. No sales, no money. It doesn't matter if I pick up a copy of The White Room in your local second hand shop or download all files from an [FTP] server. Bill and Jimmy won't get a penny. On the other hand, they deleted the whole material to make sure it was unavailable from "now" (1992) on. So in a KLF sense, downloading the old stuff works against their original intentions. I will happily download any rare track from 1989, like the White Room Soundtrack or an ultra rare promo mix for example, but current releases like the live version of "J&A" on the 4Scott album can be bought in almost every shop, and if you search long enough, you will be able to find a copy for 5 ukp only. After all, some of the money will be donated to Cancer Care, so if you copy or download it, you should burn in hell ! :-) --- Thomas Touzimsky same shit // different day
