Dont consider A1 as first pressing and A2 as second pressings.
Record gets cut to laquer, then metalwork made, first 6 (or 10) copies made then checked.
If there is a skip or there is too much bass or some distortion then the record is recut. 
The cutting engineer would scribe in 'A2' on the re-cut.
The '2' in A2 is so that the plates are clearly marked.
