This is true. However, in many if not all of these situations US was trying to stop heavy handed leaders who torture and murder people who oppose their personal and political agenda.  Saddam is one of these leaders...  If Saddam does this to his own people so easily one can only imagine what he is capable of doing to others.   I seriously doubt that he would be in power if the people had a choice.  Don't forget there is no such thing as voting in Iraq.   Something worth checking out is a "personal recollection" by an Iraqi on life in Iraq under the rule of Saddam.

You pointed out that WW II was a key turning point in US foreign policy.  WWII was the one time when the US leaders sat on their asses with the rest of the world and allowed Hitler run wild committing unspeakable acts of horror. 

To clarify, Agent Orange wasn't a weapon.  It was a defoliant and we sprayed on US soldiers too.  It's one of those things like asbestos or lead paint.  No one knew the damage it caused until it was too late.

I hope this doesn't come across the wrong way.  I'm not trying to point fingers at a country in general or the people who live there, but the leaders who abuse their power.
