Simon is spot on with his description. The cut for the German market was made to interest German distributors. Most of the money the KLF made was from overseas sales as Rough Trade Distribution/The Cartel went into liquidation in 1990 leaving a string of unpaid royalties and sales. I don't know if the KLF ever got paid the full amount for their Uk sales. I know I left RTD to go work at Appearing. Both were in the same building on Collier Street in King's Cross. Andy
From memory - there are indeed 2 soundtracks - one from 1989 when the inner film was first roughly assembled and the second one from around 1991 when the film was shown to German businessmen in an attempt to raise finance to finish the film. The easiest way to tell the difference is at the end of the film - the 1989 one ends in 'wind' like noises and the 1991 version ends with LTTT.

This question might already have done the rounds, but since I can't remember the FAQ address off-hand, I'll ask it anyway...
What's the story behind there being two different edits of the White Room movie? The version I have on VHS from years ago is different to the version I was very kindly given on VCD at the Barbican gig. Visually there are only some minor differences that I noticed, but the main difference is the audio track- the VHS version I have is more ambient, dubbier, more atmospheric and a bit smoother. The VCD version contains more music from the 1989 White Room demos tape.
I didn't sit down and compare them, I'm just going from memory, so I might not be completely right here. In fact maybe they're the same and I'm just going mad?!...
Stuart.
