that tune seems better than most in the charts but its all abit half arsed i reckon. I saw that fucking shite show J Leno or something with that bloke who's a cross between the man in the moon and Mr Punch, and they were playing that tune right after he was sat there talking shits and giggles with Hilary Clinton. Its never gonna change anything, it doesnt raise any discussions, well apart from whether or not it will raise any discussions, errr. Its good blacksmoke did that tune for 911, but its a shame it came so long after the event. Its like people think its ok now to say this or that but why didnt they at the time? Its like loads of punks ive met going on about war this and atom bomb that, then when anything kicks off they shut up. Is this cos while normally these events would be ideal for their artistic shock value and a way to make themselves feel 'righ on' or is it because they realise if they take advantage of such evil at such short notice they are scared of getting their fucking heads kicked in by Sun readers? Also as for all the whinging going on before about posts related to 911, well most of the posts werent related to that, they were about the whole picture not one disaster and no one ever did explained or justified why the KLF were more important on this forum thing or anywhere else than the genocide happening in the world. Thats pretty fucking sad and pitiful you know. We've all gotta enjoy stuff and theres a time and a place, but things of such importance really shouldnt be met with an up yours and such negativity which i've seen on go on. You may not wanna read it but its not like someones trying to stir up race hatred or some shit. There's more discussion about whether its related to a band who arent even going anymore than there is about such mixed up times. Thats probably an excellent illustration of what a fucked up race we are and this will only change by tolerating and educating people i'd previously want to kick the shit out of.
Does anybody else think it was a bit of chart fixing that got the BEP to No1 in the UK as opposed to actual sales. It just seems like too much of a coincidence that it got to no1 in "2 years on from 911" week (much like when it was fixed so "God Save The Queen" got to no2 in Jubilee '77 week).
I also think its a shite song. The problem is its all to do with context. The message of that song is cheapened by the radio friendly hip hop that accompanies it, its a bit like hearing Billy Bragg backed by S Club 7 being played at a school disco.
It would have been better if Public Enemy had reformed, got the Bomb Squad in and recorded a 911 song. Chuck would have wrote some thought provoking lyrics, the Bomb Squad would have come up with a "It Takes A Nation.." esque cut up party jam/rock riff musical backing and the video would have been filmed at Ground Zero with quick cutting clips from CNN of Twin Towers and Iraq.
At least Chuck would have meant it. _______________________________________________ KLF mailing list KLF@mailman.xmission.com http://mailman.xmission.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/klf
