All very interesting: there was a documentary on the BBC last week about the gunpowder plot, which stated that if Guido and his mates had succeeded, it would have meant more Catholic persecution rather than less, as the Protestant masses (no pun intended) gathered to make their lives living hell. It also would have affected the succession of monarchy quite badly (but then, hey-ho ... ) 9-11 was an event that was, I think, so extraordinarily pervasive in its "domino effect". Unfortunate phrase I know, but just think: it's highly unlikely that those jet plane hi-jackers knew that crashing into the Towers at 80 floors or above would inevitably cause the metal superstructure to melt, because of super-heated aviation fuel, and eventually two of the world's biggest buildings would simply dissappear (I don't think anyone EVER suspected this could possibly happen). But it did - an inevitable consequence of that initial impact. In fact, it seems similar, like a Greek tragedy, to the Titanic disaster of 1912. The initial collision, un-thought-of structural problems (a metal superstructure in one; bad quality steel and ineffective watertight bulkheads in the other), followed by disbelief, people being trapped, ineffective escape routes (although there was no equivalent of "not enough lifeboats" in 9-11), moments of immense bravery, and finally a collosal loss of life that echoes around the world. And now, 93 years later, the Titanic is a stock joke reference used by all game show hosts and bad comedians ... I wonder if 9-11 will be the same in decades to come? I also suspect that in the years following 1912, there was a similar amount of sang-froid from people who found the pointless deaths of some of the early 20th century's rich, famous and powerful really rather funny. Not many of 9-11 victims were famous (although by global standards, rich and powerful may somtimes come into it) - but a similar sang-froid comes into play. Jokes appeared on the internet within a few hours. And works of art, other than the usual statues and memorials, started to filter down, just like 1912's endless memorial sheets of music and poems (see "Convergence of the Twain" by Thomas Hardy). There will always be terrorism and disasters (witness the Titanic's "sister disaster" the Lustitania, the torpedoing of an ocean liner by a German sub in 1915 which eventual lead the US into World War One). And similarily, the reaction is always the same too ... Blacksmoke's 5-11 stamps and early music is just a part of that huge never-ending process (as is people's "shameful joy" in death of the economically powerful). Sorry if this seems a bit long-winded, but I hope people find it interesting! His reaction is OTT, but her is reacting to an OTT event. His raction is nothing but natural *for him*, who knows how we would react to something similar?
do you find America No More equally horrific?
No, it just makes you think. It certainly isn't funny. I guess 9/11 is closer, temporaly and emotionaly.
and for that matter, are you not also horrified by Cauty's stamps? not just those relevant to 9-11 but the 5-11 ones, that would seem to be rejoicing in and celebrating the treasonous act that would have surely brought about the most horrific period of religious persecution had it, as the images on the stamps represent, succeded.
Well it didn't happen did it? The 5-11 stamps say "nothing is new, there will always be terrorists" _______________________________________________ KLF mailing list KLF@mailman.xmission.com http://mailman.xmission.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/klf Report list abuse to list-abuse at studio-nibble.com
