If we're talking influence don't forget GLC! Goldie Looking Chain really get the '87 JAMMS spirit. OK so they are a bunch of porto stoners but they do make me laugh. Only the accents have been changed to protect the innocent! ----- Original Message ----- From: "John Milne" <john@highlandland.fsnet.co.uk> To: "'brendan'" <brendan.au@gmail.com>; "'All bound for Mu-Mu Land.'" <klf@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Wednesday, October 13, 2004 10:42 AM Subject: RE: [KLF] Scoot, FFS
There's also something be said for bands that carry on the KLF ethos without necessarily sounding like them.
For example: the Beta Band (okay, "The Sentinel" is a bit "Chill Out"; the Super Furry Animals (who owned tanks around the same time as JC and are friends of his); Mansun (who threw money at strangers on the underground for the video for "Taxloss"); Erasure circa "Chorus" and the PSB circa "D J Culture" (okay, maybe I'm pushing the boat here - but doesn't "Love To Hate You" sound like a Stadium House record?); the 21st century Scottish rave merchants Public Domain (who have released an entire album of "WTIL" soundalikes) and Le Hammond Inferno (whose album references "Chill Out" on the cover).

I don't think it's entirely off topic and irrelevant.
fwiw, me neither. as you said later in the post, its much more relevant than some of the stuff posted
They blatently use KLF references in nearly every album
short story - i've got most of scooter. i occasionally play some of their stuff when i have A LOT of work to do in a very short time. i find that boosting my heart rate really works and so my collection of cds includes scooter, ultrasonic and some hardcore/gabba stuff. doesnt mean i particularly like it, just means i own the cds.
the point of that story is that over time i've listened to most of scooters stuff, and whilst unable to cite any actual occurrences, i'm sure there'd be a reference to the klf somehow on every album. i think if you looked really hard, and were perhaps a little one eyed you'd find a obscure reference/link in every song. i dont like scooter enough to listen to their cds just to find all the linkage.
And I think it's more along the lines of eye-rolling here-they-go-again rather than prasie or excitement.
true. except for the standard "why do we talk about scooter" responses to any scooter posts ;-) simon: thats not a go at you but humour for the really old list members
i'd personally be much happier if scooter came out and just said yeah we love the klf so we rip them off a lot. but i dont particularly care if they dont say it either. isnt it said that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery anyway?
setting up scooter parties.
since we've just had an election here in oz, the media has all these stories about how some of the various political parties arent really political forces anymore. the mental image that came to mind first with "scooter parties" is very very scary.
my 2cents, brendan
