The earlist CD singles I remember are (UK) Pet Shop Boys "It's a sin" June 1987, New Order "True Faith" spring 1987 and (US) Depeche Mode Strangelove remix edit 3" and a load of They Might Be Giants 3" CD EPs all 1987. In the US anyway, there was the idea for a short period in 1987/88 that 3" CD singles would replace the 7" record and cassette single as the main single format.
