Does anyone know how superstar Martin Sheen ended up doing the Apocalypse Now style vocals on the Waiting for The Rights of Mu CD but wasn't used for the video (I think that was Scott Piering?) It's great this list is going 20 odd years after they sailed off to Mu Mu land! S

Lost Sounds of Mu Vol 2: Request

Does anyone know any sources for purchasing a physical Lost Sounds of Mu Vol 2? without paying daft prices and does anyone else have problems getting those chaps from Positive Void to reply to emails, I've just bought two quite nice tee shirts (burn a million quid) with two "free" CDs but I'd love to get a hard copy of 3am welcome to the moon (I think its also called Eternal Hum). Most of what I know about computers and downloading comes through watching Star Trek and its all a bit above me!

Recovered and remastered again

People! I didn't own a KLF record until six months ago. I might have had one or two tracks on early 1990s compilation cassettes. I've now got a nice little box of CDs and most of what's available. Kylie Said to Jason is bloody awful so that's the only thing I've not bought. A friend leant me his collection and whilst the cheaper option would have been to bootleg it I've sourced original versions as far as possible! KLF Shop provided some very good stuff and yes I know it's provenance is questionable i.e. The White Room OST but if you appreciate what Messrs Cauty and Drummond did its an essential item. The Recovered and Remastered series are a valuable and much appreciated addition to my collection. I don't know where this notion about them being CDRs came from but its wrong and the whole series have been given serious studio time and its down to choice, if you like your KLF with crackles and glitches stick to the rough stuff, if you want a nice smooth listen I suggest you try one of the Recovered series. Again if you like your KLF pure and 24 years old that's up to you I don't know how many people are actually on this list and it might well be very limited. If you keep music in a box and get indignant when someone refreshes it you'll end up with a stagnant dwindling audience. My partner is a further education teacher and she's used various KLF tracks in class sessions when they come in, it focusses their attention and the kids (circa 16 to 19) love it, Doctorn the Tardis went down a storm and Grim up North knocked them sideways! Its new to them rather than the KLF being some obscure band that languishes on a shelf!

I really don't see a problem with the bootleg sales. Let's remember Lost Sounds of Mu Vol 1 and 2, and The White Room Original Soundtrack, and Arkive 1 and 2 were all created and SOLD by list members. And we happily bought them. Not to mention the 1987 CD, Ultra Rare Trax, SPACE, etc. Perhaps it's because music is so freely available to download in decent quality than it was in 1997 that people are becoming 'disgusted' with the practice. The way I see it, if I want something bad enough, I'll pay for it. (hello positive void) However, if you're just going to rip your KLF collection and sell a disc full of mp3s... Let us also remember that B&J deleted their catalog. They're not losing any money on any of this because they refuse to make money off it. -paul

I've got one...thanks for reminding me to dig it out and have another listen! Very unusual CDr though. I think I might have started all this Recovered and Remastered / bootlegging debate off. Interesting difference in opinion. I will never buy a bootleg if the official release is available and (without you laughing) I had a bootleg of Ultra Rare Trax until I came across KLF Shop and bought what I asume is a bona fide bootleg! Work that one out! If there's a recording artist being ripped off through bootlegging its a no no! Its only through email exchanges with the source of the Recovered and Remastered series that I see them as labours of love, appreciation of the KLF and a determination to give the existing fan base decent quality recordings and new variations, my KLF collection is so much better by having them! On a related note on Ebay (UK) White Room Soundtrack is on offer as are Lost Sounds Vol 1 and 2 (joint item). I don't have Vol 2 but to be frank I'm not a completist and there' nothing on there that makes me want it unless its under say £20, same goes for Kylie Said to Jason and noting that a copy went on Ebay for £40 there's a copy on Amazon for (I think) £27! Both the OST and Lost Sounds 1 are on KLF Shop, I've asked about Vol 2 but didn't get a reply!

Bootlegging

I find a lot of the comments of the bootlegging issue a bit out of line. Seems like some people still think it's the early 90's when everyone and their uncle bought hundreds of CDs. I would be very surprised if the Recovered & Remastered series even broke even. They are obvioulsy manufactued in a very limited run. My guess would be maximum 500 copies each and I hardly think they sell more than a few hundred of each title. The production cost of 500 factory pressed CDs is fairly high. Add to that all the hours put in mixing, editing and "cleaning" the masters, and producing high quality artwork. These bootlegs are very well made, a true labour of love. If the guy makes a few bob at the end of the day, good luck to him. Peter

Well I have to say that I do agree with what Xavier said. It is one thing (although probably not legal as well) to distribute this stuff for free among the small group of list members, but it is another thing to put such items on eBay for sale. And: I'm sure the KLF did not make money from sampling the Beatles or ABBA :) Sampling is not comparable to selling loads of music without holding the copyright. But other people might think different about this. Nevertheless, no need to shout!
