GSL Slip Renters Well Windy Season has definitely arrived. Gusts today are reaching 60mph and are likely to build slightly through the day as the cold front approaches. Winds should stay strong through the night until the Front crosses over the Great Salt Lake around 9am tomorrow morning. The air behind the front is very cold. And once it crosses over the warm lake you can expect the storm to be charged up creating Lake Effect squalls. I do not expect much snow at the marina itself. But Wasatch Mountain totals could be impressive. This is one more time to consider whether your boat is ready for winter. Besides the previous list I sent out, have you checked your scuppers? (cockpit drains). Some of you have scuppers that are clogged and rain/snow water cannot drain out of your boats. This can cause a boat to eventually sink. As I stated before, we have already seen gusts reaching 60mph and they are expected to build. It appears everyone is getting used to Great Salt Lake Marina being in a very windy spot. All the boats seem to be riding the winds out very well. Also, although the forecast for Saturday and Sunday is for storms, this is predominantly a Wasatch Front based forecast. The weather at the GSL Marina is likely to be very cool but fairly pleasant weather. This means we will try to get the weekly RC sailboat races off on Sunday. Hope to see you there.
