Well I didn't think there was any real hope of getting any boats into the GSL Marina this year. But after the winter we are having there is hope. On a normal year we see the lake rise 2' from direct precipitation and snowpack before we lose 2' from summer evaporation. We have already come up 2.4 feet since the historic low last fall. And snowpack runoff just began about 10 days ago. With this historic snowfall we could see another 2 to 2.5 feet rise in the lake. If that happens, it is likely that we would only drop about 1.5 feet from evaporation this summer. I wasn't planning on making a decision on letting boats back in to the marina until mid-April but I think it is time to start this discussion. Before everyone gets excited, there is little hope this year for the deeper draft boats to go in and be able to get out sailing this season. Any boat with a four foot draft would still have a very short sailing season at best. There is definitely a chance for dredging which might change that equation though. But I am making plans based on what we know right now. Swing keel boats and shallow draft boats (drafts of 3' or less) will probably be able to go back into the marina this year and possibly be able to ride out the low water levels of this coming fall inside the marina. Many of you will be able to even trailer launch. We have already launched Rescue One and the Wildlife boat. The water was deep enough but we had to push the trailers through silt at the base of the ramp. Remember, if you trailer launch, you do so at your own risk and if you become stuck please plan on getting yourself unstuck. If you are interested in putting your boats in for the season please let me know as I need to begin planning on what docks we have available based on water levels. We will endeavor to accommodate as many shallow draft boats as we possibly can. But space is limited. And there is no guarantee that you will be able to sail this fall when the lake gets lower. It has been a phenomenal year. Let's hope we have two more like it so we can get everyone back in. I will let you know when we will start renting slips out again but it will be very soon. Dave
