GSL Slip Renters. We have had another security breach at the marina due to a slip renter giving out the gate code to someone who should never have had access to the marina after hours. The person who was able to get after-hours access is not very trustworthy and did not have the best of intentions last night. The current code could now be in the hands of other individuals who have no business being in the marina after closing. Fortunately nobody's boats were messed with. Your current codes no longer work. The gate code is being changed today. We will have to email you individually to let you know the new code. This could take the rest of the week. If you need the code faster than that, please email me and I will make sure you have the new code today (if you have a valid and current lease). PLEASE! DO NOT GIVE THE GATE CODE OUT TO ANYONE THAT IS NOT AN IMMEDIATE FAMILY MEMBER! If you have guests coming after hours MEET THEM AT THE FRONT GATE AND LET THEM IN. It costs money to change the code. On another note, we will be going to sunset closures on April 1st. And we will likely turn the water on to the docks this next Monday. To Marina Community: If I may add, many of us who sail late in the day, to enjoy the spectacular sunsets are also likely to leave at dark when the gate is officially locked. There are many times when another vehicle is waiting, attempting to slip in behind you before the electric gate closes shut. For our security, I will wait immediately on the other side of the gate until it is closed. For people who are bold enough to ask me if I can let them in, I'm kind enough to tell them, "No, as you can see the gate is locked because the park is closed (obviously)." Otherwise, I drive on and hope they get bored and leave. If things look suspicious, I will call Dave.* About three years ago on New Years Day, there was a transient sitting on the side of our road, guzzling a very large bottle of whiskey. It was already half empty... or was it still half full? Anyway, to prevent our stranger from passing out and freezing to death, I reported him to Bob and Dave, who were kind enough to arrange for him a ride and a bed, courtesy of the Magna Police. Point being - don't hesitate to report suspicious activity, to avoid bad press. Since I do not know or recognize everyone at the gate, I can only trust that if a person is entitled to the gate code, that is between them and the Harbormaster. As a slip renter, I feel privileged to have after hours access. It is a privilege to be a member of our Marina Community. I would urge everyone to please look out for each other to protect our property, our park and our privileges. Lance, Well put. I have also had this sort of thing happen to me and I have kindly asked the person who are they here to see and/or what slip are they visiting. The shifty stammering and long "Uhhhh..."s ensue. But the conversation usually ends about there. Thanks to all of you that help to keep our Marina the safe haven that it is. Have a great weekend!
