GSL Slip Renters.
I know the current water levels are creating challenging times for all of us. Many of us (myself included) are trapped in the marina for the rest of the season and had a short sailing season and had a short season at that. Some slip renters have expressed that they feel it is not right to be charged full rate for a slip if they cannot access the lake. I do want to state that the Boat Slip Lease covers the rental of the slip and does not cover access to the lake.
But that being said, I want to also express that I understand your opinion very well. After all, I am one of those that had their sailing season cut short. Parks has been mulling over this situation and we have decided, for this season only, that beginning September 1st, any vessel that is actually trapped in the marina on September 1st will be given the winter rates for their slip. For those that become trapped by October 1st will also start winter rates on October 1st. We will not be reducing winter rates though since very few people actually sail during the winter.
We will re-evaluate rates next year. If we have a challenging water level next year due to a substandard snow pack we will probably advise slip renters to make arrangements to pull their boats rather than leaving them in the marina. This year all the boats should ride through the low water with little difficulty. But if the lake drops even lower next year to a point that boats begin leaning over in their slips we will need to have the vessels removed to prevent damage to the docks.
But the precipitation forecast for this fall and winter actually looks good. And ground water levels as well as reservoirs look much better than this time last year.
For those deeper draft boats that will be staying in this winter please make sure your dock lines are loose enough that your vessels do not try to twist and lift dock fingers during negative storm surge.
Let us all hope and pray for a bountiful snowpack. And for those that still want to get some sailing in this fall we are still racing RC sailboats each Sunday at 5pm.
