Thank you, for the overwhelming feedback on the field trip series.
Because of the feedback, I may see if we can line up three field trips this year instead of two.
I have been working on access to many of the locations mentioned in the previous email. Most everyone have been very gracious in their cooperation.
Based on your feedback and what I have been able to arrange so far, I have tentatively decided on Lakeside trip for Saturday, April 9th. The state of Utah has given us permission to tour the Buenaventura (Bangerter) Pumps. This will give us the opportunity to see the old Lakeside ghost town (not much there anymore), the Lucin Cutoff, The Pink Side of the Lake, Buenaventura Canal, Buenaventura Pump House and Pumps (guided tour), Hogup Siding, Newfoundland Lake and Newfoundland Mountains.
It is possible to add Lucin, Danger Cave, Jukebox Cave and Wendover to this same tour.
This trip will include a somewhat rough ride along the railroad causeway for several miles so I recommend you either bring a hardy car (truck) or grab a ride with someone who has a stout car. The trip will also include a pot luck lunch along the route. I will provide the main dish such as soft taco’s.
RSVP’s are required. The meeting place will be the Great Salt Lake State Marina at 8:30am
Once the trip is fully fleshed out I will send out an official announcement of the trip.
Other trips that are moving along well in the planning stage are:
Promontory
Corrine
Golden Spike Monument
Promontory Marina
Possibly Little Valley Harbor (don’t count on this yet)
Causeway Tug Boats
Bear River Bridge
Antelope Island
Visitor Center
Fielding Garr Ranch House
Unicorn Point (very south tip of Island)
Frary Grave and Homestead site
Hill AFB Museum (if you have never been there I highly recommend it.
Further feedback is welcome
