 Winter
Sailing Seminar # 4 Presented by Eric Ellis, Executive
Director, Utah Lake Commission. Thursday, February
9, 7 - 8:30 PM Utah Lake State Park Visitors
Center.
The historical beginnings of the "New Utah
Lake". A
formal, documented vision for Utah Lake began in 2009,
with the formation of the Utah Lake
Commission, and
the resulting "Utah
Lake Master Plan".
AND
 Chris
Elison, Project Manager, Central Utah Water
Conservancy District
"Enough
water evaporates off of Utah Lake annually to fill Deer Creek
Reservoir 2 times. Our presentation will cover a brief history
of water rights for Utah Lake, how transbasin water from the
Central Utah Project and Provo River effects Utah Lake, and
other items of interest".
Great
information for anyone who sails on Utah's inland
lakes.
Seminar # 5 February 16 Skype from Mexico Dock mates
from our own Provo Marina will be coming to us "live" from
sunny Mexico. Get your questions ready for seasoned
southern sailors Clay and Kim
Chivers.

a great way to enjoy our Catalina Adventure Cruise

2017
Seattle Boat Show and 44' Maple Leaf
Inspection.
 A
beautiful City with major traffic challenges and a mushrooming
homeless population. But a mind-boggling array of Asian
restaurants.
 Doing
a walk through inspection of this 1982, 44'
Maple Leaf pilot house sloop. Prospective
owner Gary taking it all in.
 Back
at the boat show, I was impressed with the acres and acres of
boats and boat stuff. My
main interests were the exhibition booths. Anyone
interested in $500 Dubarry sailing boots?
 Or
maybe I could "trade up" from my 6 HP black beast on
Boaty?
 Fisheries Supply, near Lake Union,
has reasonable prices and lots of cool stuff.
Attended about 3 days of classes.
Lots of information on sailing up the B.C. coast to
Alaska. Impressive stories about tides and
currents. Timing is everything.
The most
frequently heard book / guide titles for the inside passage
were: "Ports
and Passes" "Waggoner
Cruising Guide" "Local
Knowledge, a Skippers Reference"
Other cool stuff learned at the
Seattle Boat Show:
Dent Island, luxury in
the wilderness. Before our modern day computers, a
mechanical "tide
predicting machine" constructed of pulleys and wheels, got
the job done. Ripple
Rock removed. My favorite
topic. Which anchor is best? Trusted
Traveler Programs...could be worth looking into. Bishops Bay
Hot Springs. Dial-A-Buoy.
 Mt. Rainier on the way
home.
