Utah’s weather during the winter months is usually determined by what happens in the Pacific ocean.  I’ve been watching the Pacific Ocean pattern quite closely and it was showing NO hope of a good winter . . . until now.

National Weather Service has issued a La Nina watch for the Pacific Ocean.  This means that a La Nina MAY form this fall.  If that happens, it could be the first good news we’ve seen for a good wet winter for Utah.

We often do well with La Nina conditions.  This does not mean the La Nina will form or that Utah will have a good wet winter.  But it is a glimmer of hope.

But I will be truthful with you.  In order to have a hope of keeping the medium draft boats in the water next summer we need  about 125% of normal precipitation and snowpack this next season.  The mountain reservoirs and ground water will be that low.
