GSL Slip Renters and Marina Users During the winter water temperatures on the Great Salt Lake can be some of the coldest on earth. Water temperatures dip below 29 degrees during December and January. Someone falling into the lake is exposed to very dangerous, and uncomfortable conditions. The Great Salt Lake Yacht Club would like to hold a fund raiser for the purpose of buying blankets and some warm outer clothing for those that may have an unfortunate accident and need some immediate relief. These items would be housed at the ranger station for use in search and rescue incidents. But the Yacht Club want to make this fundraiser a fun activity for the whole marina community. This year's Polar Bear Cup, as well as the Harbor Master's Clam Chowder party on the 25th of January is dedicated for this purpose. The Yacht Club and the Harbor Master want to invite you out on January 25th for the Polar Bear Cup and Cruise. And after a day of racing and cruising come to the Harbor Master's deck and enjoy a nice warm bon fire and clam chowder. Please be willing to make a very modest cash contribution or bring blankets or sweat pants/shirts that can be used to warm those unfortunate mariners that may have a very cold introduction to winter water temperatures on the lake. This activity is being held with the two duck hunters that died last year as well as the survivor that swam 1.7 miles in 47 degree water. We hope to see you there. This event is open to all regardless of club affiliation. Thank you Dave and Clark Forman. Dave Shearer Harbor Master Great Salt Lake State Marina Antelope Island State Marina 801-209-9142
