We finally have some significant movement! We heard from Army Corp of Engineers today. They have agreed that our disposal site will not require a permit. This is significant and will allow us to finally move forward on the dredging very soon. We do have some details we must finish with Army Corp with regard to the alignment of the pipe.
Please understand that we still need to build the containment site, put the project out to bid, award the project to the successful bidder, sign contracts. Then the contractor will need to mobilize before dredging actually starts. So we are still a few months out. But at least we are no longer sitting in a holding pattern.
On another note, we had a very successful crane day yesterday. We were able to finally put the first 22 boats back into the marina. And we did it in record time. THANK YOU TO ALL THE VOLUNTEERS WHO SACRIFICED THEIR TIME TO MAKE THIS GO SAFELY AND QUICKLY.
Now that I feel confident that we will not have to pull boats next fall I am ready to schedule another crane day sometime in April. I still want to focus on the shallower draft boats though (boats with drafts of 4.7’ or less). But we now have loaner trailers. Also we have a limited amount of slips as we can only use the back basin until dredging is moving forward. If you would like to put your boat back in sometime in April let me know so I can get a date scheduled.
Gephardt Daily was out here yesterday to cover putting boats back in the water. Here is the link to the story if you want to see it.
