I have been asked by several people why the road to the marina is still torn up.  Some have even commented how a contractor can just walk away from a project before it is finished.  So I thought I would send this email out explaining what is going on with the road.

As you know, the road was heavily damaged in the earthquake last year.  And the road continues to fail even now.  It was decided to fix the worst spots last fall.  The repairs were made but, by the time they were ready to lay asphalt, the temperatures became too cold and the asphalt companies shut  down for the year.  We were planning to lay asphalt this last March . . . until FEMA became involved.  FEMA’s involvement is not a bad thing.  But it is delaying repairs temporarily.

FEMA has informed us that we may be qualified for a FEMA grant to repair the whole road.  This is potentially a large pot of money to fix everything quicker than we could with budget restraints.

We are in the process of working with FEMA right now and, hopefully, securing the needed money to complete all needed repairs.  But the process does take some time.  I am sorry for the inconvenience but we want to make the road whole again.

I hope that helps explain why the road is still the way it is.
