DREDGING AND CRANE DAY
Well it is now a new Fiscal Year so money can now be spent on dredging efforts for Great Salt Lake Marina. I hope to have some news very very soon.
But the lake is rapidly dropping now and we need to get boats with a draft of 3.3 feet or over out while we can still get you to the crane out area. I have had very few people RSVP. And it may be necessary to pull ALL the boats out depending on how they plan to dredge.
PLEASE RSVP for Crane Day if you are planning on pulling. Some important notes:
· If they decide to build a coffer dam in order to dredge and your boat is stuck in the mud in your slip by the time they build the coffer dam your boat is in a world of hurt!
· If they suction dredge and your boat is stuck in the mud they may not be able to successfully dredge where your boat is.
For those of you with trailers we will likely lose the launch ramp for boats with a draft over 3 feet by early August.
I know none of us wanted to pull our boats. I understand how it is. I have been a hard-core sailboat racer since I was 10 years old. I have actively sailed and raced every year for the last 42 years. I am one of those that have a deep draft keel and I had to pull my boat last July and have not sailed since. 2015 may go down as the only year I have not sailed since 1972.
DE-RIGGING and RIGGING SEMINAR
On the last two crane days it became apparent that some boat owners didn’t know how Crane Days work, Crane Day etiquette, or how to unrig their boats. This is understandable considering many boats have been sold to new boat owners over the last 10 years and these boats have not previously been pulled from the lake.
The volunteer Great Salt Lake Search & Rescue Team (all experienced sailors) have offered to host a rigging and derigging seminar for the marina community on the 19th of July at noon. This is a Sunday. If you are interested in learning how to properly de-rig your boat and how to prepare for Crane Day I recommend showing up for this informative clinic.
PLEASE RSVP if you plan to show up for this clinic.
MAST DROP PARTY
The Mast Drop Party for the July 30th Crane Day will be Saturday, July 25th starting at noon. If you want help dropping your mast and can help others this is the day. Please RSVP for the Mast Drop Party.
If you have any questions please feel free to email or call.
Thanks
