GSL Slip Renters and Marina Users
I want to thank all the volunteers who showed up
yesterday to help with silt and rock removal from the marina mouth.
We were quite successful cleaning up rocks and
silt.
But there is much to be done. Because of the
wind and waves, we will be cancelling our efforts today. But we would like
to try again next Saturday around noon.
The rocks that are in the mouth of the marina are
from the old county breakwater. Some of these rocks were big. We
were able to remove many of them four years ago. And we were able to
remove the three big rocks in the center of the mouth yesterday. These
rocks had quite a bit of bottom paint on them so we know we pulled some
problematic rocks.
Yet there are numerous smaller rocks. If we
can get a volunteer work crew together on two more dates we could remove these
rocks so that we can widen the navigatable area of the marina
mouth.
If you are interested in helping please let me
know.
In the meantime, we have placed an orange buoy
right on top of these rocks. This bouy is almost dead center just outside
the mouth. Keep this buoy to your port side as you leave the marina.
keep the other three buoys near the east breakwater to your starboard as you
leave the marina.
The mouth of the marina has a depth of about 5' to
5.5' at the center of the mouth with a water depth of 4195.9
DO NOT USE THE REEF CHANNEL BUOYS ANYMORE. If
you choose to leave the marina, use the deep water buoys.
We are expecting gusty winds from the SE and SW for
the remainder of the day. These gusts will exceed 30 knots and we could
even see gusts over 50 knots in the marina today (Sunday, August
12)
Thank You
