Conditions have subsided at the Great Salt Lake Marina.  We are still experiencing the occasional 30mph gusts but we are no longer experiencing the 70+ to 90mph gusts.

We have now walked the entire marina and damage looks relatively light considering the strength of the wind gusts.  Structurally the marina only suffered losing water to K dock.  And one large tree limb down.  But there is some private property damage to report.

Following is what damage we observed.  PLEASE NOTE that this report does not include scuffs, scrapes and other gelcoat damage to boats as we do not have any idea whether this damage was caused by this storm or the damage was there prior to the storm.  A good example is my own personal boat that has two deep gouges in the side of her that were there prior to me purchasing the boat.  Nor does this report cover any items that may have blown off boats.

Gonzo Boat Rentals

Rental shack blown ¼ of the way across the parking lot.  No observable damage

Road Runner antennae snapped in half.

I Dock

I-4 – Westphal – Front deck hatch open.

I-20 – Horrocks – Genoa sail shredded

J Dock

J-36 – McAffee – Hatch blown off

J-40 – Dodds – Broken Dock Line

J-21 – Lord – Cover over hatch blown off.

K Dock

Broken water line – no water – we will try to repair ASAP

K-40 – Askmo – Aft lazarette hatch blown off – still attached to boat though

All boats, especially K dock are completely covered in sand and salt spray.  The docks are also covered in a layer of sand.  This sand is like ball bearings and can be slippery.  Be careful when walking on the docks.

We are expecting rain tomorrow.  Those with hatches off should consider addressing that.

DOCK LINES – Many of you have dock lines that have stretched out since you put your boats in the water.  This is normal but some of those lines may be loose enough to allow your boat to rub up against the dock during wind storms now.
