Dredging is going very well. But we would like to keep restrictions on the mouth through tomorrow.
The restrictions only include the keel boats. Because of the depths the barge is working on outside the mouth, there just isn’t enough room for a keel boat to get past them.
This restriction does not include the scullers, kayaks, paddle boards and pontoon boats. Yet there are limitations on them too.
The restrictions listed above are only in effect from 6am to 6pm. After that, we hope restrictions will be lifted.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
Tour boat pontoon boats: Please communicate well in advance (as you have) with the barge to let them know you are leaving and returning so they know to watch their bucket swing for you. They are monitoring
VHF Marine Band 16.
Scullers, kayakers, paddle boards. Be very careful and diligent. And remember – you may think you have right-of-way but you don’t. Under international COLREGS, the barge is considered a vessel limited in
their ability to maneuver. This means they have right-of-way. Please be very diligent when going in and out of the marina mouth and try not to impact dredging operations.
Thank you, for your understanding. Dredging is going according to schedule which means it is going much faster than the time allotted to the dredgers to complete the project.
And remember, like I said in yesterday’s email, the launch ramp is closed for the duration of the project. I hope we do not have a repeat of the incident we had a couple days ago. This is a safety issue
that should be taken very seriously.
