ACTION ALERT!

GSL Marina Users,

Sorry for the delay in getting this out to you – but I needed to make sure we had our facts and amounts correct before we started lobbying.

We need to quickly start efforts to lobby for additional monies to get the dredging in the marina done right.  The current funding of 1.5 million received in 2015, is not quite enough to adequately dredge the marina, due to several unforeseen factors. $100,000 has already used for engineering fees, leaving 1.4 million for dredging.  The current funds will allow for partial dredging of the inner marina channel, the launch ramp, the launch ramp channel and two docks in the NW basin.  This will make the marina 25% functional.

We need more money.  Please ask for One Time Supplemental General Funds to the FY2017 Budget (important that you use this wording).  We need an additional $507,000 to complete the dredging in the NW basin, and we need an additional $900,000 (on top of the $507,000 for a total of 1.4 million) to dredge the south basin.  My hope is that we can at least convince them to give us the $507,000 which would mean, we should be able to get all the boats back in the water.

Please write to your Senator and Representative, let them know you are a constituent in their voting district,  and urge them to ask the Natural Resources, Agriculture and Environmental Quality Appropriations Subcommittee to give us ONE TIME SUPPLEMENTAL FUNDING to complete the dredging project.  If you do not know who your Senator and Representative are you can find out who they are here:

Please also write to the attached list of members of the 2017 Natural Resources, Agriculture, and Environmental Quality Appropriations Subcommittee and ask them to approve this funding as well.

State Parks already requested this funding and they were turned down.  So when you write to the Legislators, please be respectful, make your email short and to the point.  I think it would be helpful, if you spelled out how long you have had a boat in the GSL marina, how many years you have been paying slip rent, how much slip rent you have paid over the years – and how much slip rent they have lost from you over the past two years because the marina was not functional.  Please also tell them why you love this state park.

I have attached a flyer that I have sent to everyone on the committee.  You do not need to send it to them again, I am only attaching it so you can see what they have been told.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
