TURKEY FEST

We are looking at an incredible turnout for the annual Turkey Fest. Weather looks like it will be in the high 40's to low 50's with partly cloudy skies by serving time. We will still plan to have lawn games for those that come out early but remember we serve promptly at 4pm. Food goes fast so I wouldn't be late. If you've never had deep fried turkey you are missing out! If you haven't already RSVP'd please do so NOW as we need to finalize purchases based on RSVP's. I will provide the turkeys. Side dishes are certainly welcome but not required. Please bring your own beverages. Thanks Dave

TURKEY FEST - PLEASE RSVP

We have a great event and long-running tradition coming up. It is the 28th annual Dave's Turkey Social. This has become the largest event at the marina and is very popular. The Deep Fried Turkey is incredible and all the side dishes are just awesome! We will also be adding lawn games for those that want to show up a bit early and visit with friends. I will provide the turkeys but side dishes, although not required, are certainly encourages. We will begin serving at 4pm SHARP. Food runs out quick so don't be late. The Turkey Fest is Saturday, November 20th. If you haven't already RSVP'd please do so now. I need to have the RSVP's to know how many turkeys to purchase. Your Boat at GSL

Well the boats rode through the storm quite well. Top gusts were around 62mph. This was a tad lighter than forecasted. But we also received a LOT of rain from this storm. It churned over us all night. I would recommend checking your boats for leaks and make sure cockpit scuppers are clear so water doesn't start backing up on the cockpit and running down into the cabin. Thanks Dave

WARNING - BARNBURNER WIND COMING

I've been watching the wind models for a few days now. It looks like we have a full on barnburner wind storm coming for Monday. This is looking like the first very strong wind storm of the Frontal Season. October 1st through May 15 is Frontal Wind Pattern Season. That means we have strong southern frontal winds as the storm approaches and then strong southern winds after the front passes overhead. It is still early in the forecast but this looks like direct south winds (the worst kind) for the marina. We will see strong negative storm surge. Boats that are in the water will be grounded in their slips. Boats in the parking lot are subject to twisting and even tipping off their stands. Boats that are on cradles should ride the storm out ok. But those on stands or trailers are very vulnerable. So what to do? If you are on stands - please come out here and chain or tie your stands in place so they cannot squeeze out causing your boat to drop on the pavement. If you are on a trailer - PLEASE come out here and thoroughly chalk your wheels to minimize your trailer swinging in the wind. It will want to swivel sideways broadside to the wind. If that happens your boat is in serious trouble at that time. Please do all this by Monday morning. Protect your property. Protect your neighbor's property. On a good note, we have had a phenomenal October, as far as precipitation. And strong winds usually means a good juicy storm. I still don't think there is much hope of getting boats back in the water next spring. But it is a La Nina year. Let's see what happens. In the meantime PLEASE SECURE YOUR PROPERTY AT THE MARINA. Pumpkin Patch CANCELLED

It pains me to do this but we are going to cancel the Pumpkin Patch for this year. We only had three RSVP's for the event. Instead we will put all our efforts in to holding a first class TURKEY FEST on November 20th. We will have lawn games set up as well as other activities before the main event begins at 4pm. PLEASE RSVP so I know how many turkeys to buy. If you have never had deep fried turkey you are really missing out. I will provide the turkeys but side dishes are encouraged. See you there. Pumpkin Patch Social

Reminder that the Pumpkin Patch / Trunk-or-treating social is next Saturday starting at 3pm. Activities include: * Pumpkin painting for the kids. * Lawn games * Costume contest for adults, kids, and pets. * Stew pot luck contest * Trunk 0r Treating * Movie night. PLEASE MAKE SURE TO RSVP. If we do not get enough RSVP's the event will be cancelled. Also, remember that the Harbormaster's Turkey Social will return this year on November 20th. Movie Night at the Marina

Well Chad will be hosting another MOVIE NIGHT AT THE MARINA on October 2nd. Pirates of the Caribbean 3, At World's End. Movie will start just after sunset. The Park gates will be closed at 5pm so make sure you have your gate codes. Dave

Pahoo

Many of you have known Pahoo for many years now. He has been a fixture at the Great Salt Lake State Park and Marina for nearly as long as I have now. He is probably one of the longest running camp hosts in State Parks history. Well Pahoo has decided to retire after his health scare this Spring. His last day living at the Park was today. We would like to do an official retirement party for him. We are leaning toward Saturday, October 2nd but Pahoo has to work out a few details before we can finalize the plans. I know many of you would like to say goodbye to him and wish him well on his next journey. I will keep you posted. Dave

PUMPKIN PATCH SOCIAL - Mark the Date

We are bringing back the Octoberfest/Pumpkin Patch Social after a hiatus due to COVID 19. Our boats may be out of the water but we can still get together, have some fun and socialize with friends from the marina community. Mark the date - Saturday, October 23rd There will be activities for kids, dogs and adults. 3pm starts lawn games and pumpkin painting. 5:30pm will be a stew cooking contest. Bring your best recipes to compete and feed the group. 6:30pm Adult, Kids, and Dogs costume contest followed by Trunk or Treating in the north parking lot. 8pm will be Movie on the Lawn. If you don't have a favorite recipe please bring a side dish (not required. Just a suggestion). Please RSVP so we can start judging how many people to plan on. More details to follow. And don't forget about the Turkey Fest in November. Thanks Dave
