Parking Lot Striping

GSL Slip Renters and Marina Users We will be restriping the parking lot next Monday, August 13th. This will be an all day process. The striping will look very similar to the existing striping with some minor exceptions. These exceptions should not effect slip renter parking. It is mainly to fix some congestion problems. In order to restripe the parking lot we will need your cooperation. We will close the north half of the parking lot on Sunday late evening. Parking will be restricted to the south half during Monday morning. In the afternoon we will re-open the north half and close the south half. The whole parking lot will be reopened by Monday night. We apologize for any inconvenience but it should make for an improvement when Duck Hunting season starts this fall. On another note. These birds that are migrating through and staining the boats are called Bank Swallows.They are not the Barn Swallows that build the nests in booms and make mud nests during the spring and summer. Of course, being Bank Swallows rather than Barn Swallows does not make any less obnoxious. These birds migrate through the marina through August and should be gone by early September. Parrothead update

Steve & Heather wanted everyone to know you're welcome to bring your own drinks (alcoholic or non) & coolers. The bar will be open only for those who choose to patronize it. Also they will be sponsoring competitions (with prizes) for the" Best Parrothead & Best Pirate" costumes as well as "Lowest Limbo". See y'all at the skippers meeting 11:00 AM 8/19/07.

August 19th Parrothead Raft-up party

Sunday, August 19th - 'Parrothead Raft-Up Party' featuring the "Island Serenade" as our AIRCONDITIONED floating bar and host. We will have the party favors, Limbo, dancing, music, cash bar, micro-brew keg (with special reduced prices for all who raft-up). We will also have light hors'dourves, chips/dip, snacks on board at no extra cost. The plan will be to navigate Island Serenade to a deep water location about 4 miles out, then begin the raft-up on either side (don't forget your fenders & dock lines). This should be a good swimming event as well. There will be a freshwater wash down on Island Serenade. Skipper's meeting at 1100, then sail out to our location.

Last Night's Storm

GSL Slip Renters and Marina Users; Last night's storm brought winds around 50 knots and 1.71 inches of rain in 20 minutes. There is no apparent wind damage but there are some small boats and dingies with quite a bit of water in them. Hopefully all that water will help with the lake level. Thank you GSL Harbormaster

Storm Warning

GSL Slip Renters and Marina Users; We are still under a Storm Warning for the Great Salt Lake Marina area. We have not had much strong wind yet but we have two strong storm cells approaching the marina at this time. We could se significant wind and lightning the rest of the night. Storm Update

GSL Slip Renters and Marina Users; We have had two very juicy storms come through the marina this afternoon. The marina station has received .5 inches of rain out of these last two cells. Heavy rain, sizeable hail, and lots of lightning. But, so far, the wind has been forgiving at only 30 knots. There is no observed damage in the marina at this time. Yet, there are several powerful storm cells lined up aiming for the marina. I will keep you updated on any damage as the oportunity arizes. Thank you GSL Harbormaster

Deep Channel Buoys now recommended

GSL Slip Renters and Marina Users; It is no longer advisable to use the Reef Channel buoys. Storm surge can change the depth over the reef in a short period of time. If you choose to leave the marina area and head out on the lake, it is advised that you now use the Deep Channel buoys. Please keep a close eye on the lake depth as the marina mouth is now quite shallow. At 4196.5 lake level the marina mouth will have a maximum usable depth of 6.0 feet. This means that if you use the ideal approach through the marina you will see some shallow spots at six feet. There are shallower spots if you do not pick the ideal path. Attached is a map and coordinates of the Deep Channel and Reef Channel buoys. But, remember, we do not advise using the Reef Channel for the rest of the 2007 sailing season. We will probably pull 'R-R2' and 'R-R4" buoys sometime in August. Thank you GSL Harbormaster

Storm Warning Issued for Great Salt Lake Marina Area GSL Slip Renters and Marina Users A Storm Warning has been issued for the Great Salt Lake Marina area. We could experience thunderstorms throughout the day. This includes potential of lightning, rain, and gusty wind. Some winds may be severe. This Storm Warning is for all of today and tonight.
