Dredging Update

We had a meeting with the Army Corp of Engineers today. The meeting went very well and was encouraging. Based on that meeting we have switched focus on what our original plans were to do with the spoils and are looking for other alternatives for storage. If we can find alternative spots close by to store the spoils it could greatly speed up the time that dredging could begin. Now I don't want to get people too excited that we will begin dredging right away because that is not the case. But, if we can solve the spoils storage problem without having to mitigate the storage area we may be able to begin dredging much earlier than what we originally thought we would begin dredging. I will make myself available this Saturday during the Great Salt Lake Yacht Club's wine and cheese party to discuss dredging updates more thoroughly. Lake Level Update

We are nearing our seasonal low prediction of 4192' above sea level which will put a forecasted depth of 2.5' at the marina mouth. We are currently at 4192.7' above sea level with a depth of 3.2' at the marina mouth. If your boat is still in the water it appears you are now going to be there until the lake begins to rise (or dredging happens) this spring as there is only about 1 foot of water at the launch ramp now. Of course if it is decided that a coffer dam must be put in to dredge we will need to pull all boats out with a crane. Now for a bit of good news. Dredging WILL happen. I just don't know when yet. But planning is moving forward at a regular pace now. We have a dredging meeting today with the Army Corp of Engineers. I hope to have some good news after the meeting but I am a realist so we will see. The National Weather Service is forecasting "Drought Removal Likely" for the Great Salt Lake drainage area. This is very good news. I have already sent you all an email about the forecast for the Super El Nino. But I will recap that NWS is forecasting we will have a wetter and warmer than normal fall. They do not know what the winter will bring for the GSL drainage area though so they are forecasting an equal chance of being drier than normal or wetter than normal. But, as I stated in my earlier El Nino email, the last three Super El Nino's brought wetter than normal (much wetter) winters. If you haven't chained your boat stands together yet NOW is the time to do it! We have several storms this week that are forecasted to bring wind. Chaining boat stands together is critical for boat stability. Those with trailers or cradles do not need to worry about chains. Wine & Cheese Social

GSL Slip Renters (parking lot boats included) and Marina Users. The Great Salt Lake Yacht Club is hosting their annual Wine and Cheese Social this Saturday at 5pm. After a wet and stormy week it should be a great weekend for a much needed social. I will plan to attend the social to hopefully give an update on dredging. We have a meeting today with the Army Corp of Engineers so I should have some fresh news to report at the social. WIND WARNING - BOAT STANDS

It appears a few boat owners are not taking my advice very seriously. I have been watching the wind models for the last few days for the wind event this Friday and Saturday. The wind models have been deteriorating for the last few days. That means that the forecasted winds look like they will be very strong. Forecasted winds of 30 plus mph can produce gusts of 50 to 60 mph at the marina. We could possibly see stronger gusts than that. It is essential that boat stands are chained together to prevent them from popping out from under the boat in strong winds. There are at least six boats that do not have boat stands chained together. This includes a Newport 30, to a Catalina 25. It is YOUR responsibility to chain your stands together! PLEASE COME OUT HERE AND PROTECT YOUR PROPERTY AS WELL AS THOSE BOATS AROUND YOU. Important Notice - WIND

GSL Slip Renters (mainly those who have boats on boat stands) We are experiencing strong southerly winds at the marina today. These winds will last through Saturday as a front continues to wiggle across northern Utah. Those winds could become very strong on Friday. If you do not have your boat stands chained together yet, NOW is the time to get that done. It is imperative that boat stands are chained together to prevent them from sliding out in strong wind events. It is the boat owner's responsibility to make sure this is done. Also, there is a Catalina 25 behind the shop that left his sails out on the deck of the boat. The mainsail is now probably shredded and I'm not sure all the sails are still there.
