Reef Channel Buoys

GSL Slip Renters and Marina Users At the end of this weekend we will be pulling the "Reef Channel" buoys for winter maintenance. This would be "RR2" "RR4" and 'J' mark. We do not recommend you go over the reef anymore this season. All the "Deep Channel" Buoys will remain and be maintained through the winter. Shallow, Hazardous Marina Mouth Warning! GSL Slip Renters and Marina Users After some discussion and recent events in the Great Salt Lake State Marina mouth, we are no longer confident that ANY BOAT, regardless of draft, would be able to leave the GSL Marina mouth safely without damage. Even though we are reading 4.5 feet in the mouth, this is a nominal depth. That means it is 4.5 feet if you happen to pick the best route possible (missing rocks, sand bars and silting). Too many boats are becoming stuck in the mouth. This creates a hazard. The other night, after pulling a grounded boat from the mouth, "Rescue Four" (2 1/2 foot draft) hit a rock just outside the mouth (just left of center if you are leaving the marina). What this potentially means is that the rescue boats may not be able to safely maneuver around a boat stuck in the marina mouth. If you choose to utilize the marina mouth, please consider all the impacts. Can you make it through; If you become stuck will you be a hinderance to others; If you become stuck could you get off yourself. These are questions you must ask yourself and decide what the risks are. It is too bad the weather has brought us to this point but we are there. The recent storms have helped though. We have actually come up slightly in lake level. Even though we are not as low as we were three years ago we seem to have had sigificant silting in the area we dredged four years ago. This silting, although soft muck, is where boats are currently getting stuck. We have posted maps of the marina mouth on the Marina Office bulletin board. If you choose to utilize the mouth please consult these maps to pick your best route. Please be aware too, that we are doing everything we can at this time to see if we can get the mouth dredged out. We are also looking at possibly dredging the whole marina. The main office of Parks and Recreation are aware of our strongly expressed conserns. At this time we are working with the Army Corp of Engineers on the permit process. We are also looking for funding but budgets are tight. Maybe we will be able to utilize volunteer time and equipment. I will keep you posted on all developments.

Vending Machines

GSL Slip Renters and Marina Users We are finalizing an agreement with a vendor to supply beverage machines to the marina. There will be two machines; One machine will have Coke products while the other machine will have Pepsi products. These machines will include soda, juice and water products. The prices seem to be quite reasonable. These machines will be located on the marina patio for a very short time and then will be located on the West side of the marina office, near the Yacht Club office. Freezing Temperatures

GSL Slip Renters NOAA has issued a frost warning for tonight. Temperatures could approach freezing. I do not think that this will affect the boats at the marina though. If you have water tanks in your boats with water, they should be ok. the lake temperatures are still warm and should keep interior temperatures in the boat well above freezing. But, this NOAA advisory is a good reminder that it is time to think of these matters. We will be shutting off the water to the docks in the near future. We will also be winterizing the pump-a-head and porta-potty rinse stations in the near future. Dates for these two items will be announced soon but expect mid to late October. Last year we had a boat sink in the marina. This was from a thru-hull issue. Time to think about these issues and winterizing is upon us. CRANE USERS- FRIDAY OCTOBER 5TH 12 NOON IS THE DAY SELECTED. Due to the weight of Jeanne's Tarten we will need the 130 ton crane - the reach will be 100 to 120 ft - the crane is good for 12,600 lbs at 100 ft reach. We need to have Dave Shearer confirm the reach based on the slip we will use The estimated cost is as follows; please note that the key to only using the crane for 4 or 5 hours is our preparedness. 6 boats is actually very affordable, more than 6 boats doesn't always translate to lower costs. Travel time is included in the hour totals so 3 hours /6 boats allow 30 minutes per boat plus 2 hours travel 4 hours x 260 per hour = $1040.00 / 6 boats = $ 173.30 each 5 hours x 260 per hour = $ 1300.00 / 6 boats = $ 216.66 each 6 hours x 260 per hour = $ 1560.00 / 6 boats = $ 260.00 each PLEASE SEND A CHECK FOR $ 260.00 TO ME BY SATURDAY THE 29TH. It will need to be in the mail soon. ; This allows me time to cancel the crane if all the deposits are not received. I will give back what we don't use. Include your return address and phone # please. IF $260.00 is too much please let me know as soon as possible. I believe that $ 215.00 will be the actual cost if all 6 boats show up. Storm Report

GSL Slip Renters and Marina Users: The storm has pretty well concluded at the marina. Although we had some strong gusts with squalls moving through, we had almost no damage reported. The only notable damage is as follows: Joe DeGrado - Unsecured Storage. Your boat is fine but your mast blew over in a 57knot gust. The weather is beautiful at the lake now. CLARIFICATION, it seems there has been some confusion about this crane day. This crane day is in addition to the crane day Dave shearer will have in November. Trailer Parking
