GSL Slip Renters and Marina Users; Last night's storm brought winds around 50 knots and 1.71 inches of rain in 20 minutes. There is no apparent wind damage but there are some small boats and dingies with quite a bit of water in them. Hopefully all that water will help with the lake level. Thank you GSL Harbormaster

Storm Warning

GSL Slip Renters and Marina Users; We are still under a Storm Warning for the Great Salt Lake Marina area. We have not had much strong wind yet but we have two strong storm cells approaching the marina at this time. We could se significant wind and lightning the rest of the night. We will keep you posted of any observed damage. Thank you GSL Harbormaster

Storm Update

GSL Slip Renters and Marina Users; We have had two very juicy storms come through the marina this afternoon. The marina station has received .5 inches of rain out of these last two cells. Heavy rain, sizeable hail, and lots of lightning. But, so far, the wind has been forgiving at only 30 knots. There is no observed damage in the marina at this time. Yet, there are several powerful storm cells lined up aiming for the marina. I will keep you updated on any damage as the oportunity arizes. Thank you GSL Harbormaster

Deep Channel Buoys now recommended

GSL Slip Renters and Marina Users; It is no longer advisable to use the Reef Channel buoys. Storm surge can change the depth over the reef in a short period of time. If you choose to leave the marina area and head out on the lake, it is advised that you now use the Deep Channel buoys. Please keep a close eye on the lake depth as the marina mouth is now quite shallow. At 4196.5 lake level the marina mouth will have a maximum usable depth of 6.0 feet. This means that if you use the ideal approach through the marina you will see some shallow spots at six feet. There are shallower spots if you do not pick the ideal path. Attached is a map and coordinates of the Deep Channel and Reef Channel buoys. But, remember, we do not advise using the Reef Channel for the rest of the 2007 sailing season. We will probably pull 'R-R2' and 'R-R4" buoys sometime in August. Thank you GSL Harbormaster

Storm Warning Issued for Great Salt Lake Marina Area GSL Slip Renters and Marina Users A Storm Warning has been issued for the Great Salt Lake Marina area. We could experience thunderstorms throughout the day. This includes potential of lightning, rain, and gusty wind. Some winds may be severe. This Storm Warning is for all of today and tonight. I expect we will allow it to expire tomorrow morning but we will keep you posted. Thank You GSL Harbormaster

Fire Ban Correction

Fire Ban Correction. There is a Fire Ban in place for all state lands. This includes the Great Salt Lake State Marina. Fires are still allowed though, in the developed firepit next to the Ranger Station. Fires shall not be left unattended and must be dowsed before leaving. Propane grills are still allowed in the marina. Fireworks of all kinds have been banned until further notice. Thanks

Fire Ban, Water Temp

A Fire Ban has been issued for the Great Salt Lake State Marina. This ban was issued by the Governor for all State, Federal and BLM land. This means no fireworks and no open fires in the marina. This includes the fire pit. The water temperature in the marina hit 92 degrees for a short period yesterday. That is as warm as I have seen it. It has maintained an average of 84 degrees for awhile now.
