I picked this up on Tuesday, and read the first 41 pages that day. It started well, reminding me a bit of Faded Steel Heat, which is one of my favorites. Both are longer tales (by Garrett standards), with a plot full of darkness. This one is full of creepiness from the get-go, due to the Tournament of Swords mentioned on the back cover. I kept reading today, and holy ----, there's a major death early in the book! Caught me totally off guard. I'm very excited to see where the story goes from here. Anyone else started reading it yet? On a side note, the third new Black Company story is now out in a new anthology. I haven't read it, or even seen it, but the new book is apparently slowly growing...
I bought it this morning on Nook. I can't wait to read it! Definitely enjoyed the book. Finished it in two days, although I think a re-read will be necessary to pick up all the little bits. I think it's better than most of the recent Garret novels. A definite pot-boiler. Nothing will ever pass Old Tin Sorrows in my opinion, but this one feels a lot more like one of the earlier Garrett books. Definitely room for one more book, although I don't think I would be disappointed if it ended here (other than being generally disappointed that it ended). Would anyone be kind enough to tell me where the 3 Black Company short stories can be found, except obviously the newer one mentioned in this thread. Thanks On Sun, Jul 7, 2013 at 5:53 AM, Buck Caldwell <webmaster@glencook.org>wrote:

I am still working away on WBA. I have been a health care provider for many years, dealing with a lot of loss and tragedy. I could very well pass on the tragedy and angst which permeates WBA. Personally, I feel Garrett deserves a better hand than the one fate has dealt him in WBA. And, as I said before, I feel Glen Cook very much owes us a sequel tgo WBA, hopefully in a somewhat lighter vein most of the time! I'm at the start of Chapter 12. This one feels like better narrative than I recall. The catching readers up part doesn't seem boggy like it can be.
