I had a look at Nightshade Books' website http://www.nightshadebooks.com/cart.php?m=product_detail&p=127 and it shows that An Empire Unacquainted With Defeat has sold out of its hardcover printing! That's exciting, and I'm guessing getting the book into Barnes & Noble and Borders helped (I never saw A Cruel Wind or A Fortress in Shadow in the chain stores in hardcover). I hope they bring the softcover out soon! In the Discussion section of their site, someone asked about the sequels omnibus. They indicated that would be ready to announce details fairly soon, but can't do so yet. You guys have probably by now seen the artwork for the final Black Company omnibus, due in January http://www.amazon.com/Many-Deaths-Black-Company/dp/0765324016/ref=sr_1_4?ie=... And Petty Pewter Gods is supposed to be out in reprint on August 4, but I saw a copy Sunday at a local Barnes & Noble. That's the Glen News for now...
Ahem, that's "final Black Company omnibus" until Glen finishes the last two books he's been muttering about. "The Many Deaths of the Black Company" is a badass title for a collection; the list of survivors from Soldiers Live is awfully short. On Aug 3, 2009, at 9:17 PM, Marc Rikmenspoel wrote:

That's great news. I hope Glen keeps seeing the money roll in for a long time to come. I just picked up the hardcover of Empire Unaquainted With Defeat from Amazon for $16.50 so there are some copies still out there (didn't get it for my birthday so I got my own present ;-). I wonder if they plan to do another printing. Steve * On Tue 08/04/09 at 00:17, Marc Rikmenspoel (marcrik@gmail.com) wrote:

Here's hoping they do several more printings. I'm not an expert in the field, but there's a difference between "Books sold" and "Sell Through". When the publisher ships the book to a distributor it's counted a book sold while the "sell through" number is the number that are sold in retail. The "Sell Through" rate is never 100%. There are returns, damaged books, and other factors that ensure the retail sales never sell 100% of the books. Wikipedia explains this in a bit more detail at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sell-through What I am basically saying is that both statements are true - the publisher seems to have sold the entire run (so they list it as sold out) while various retailers still have copies in stock that they have yet to sell or return. Here's hoping that Cook's Sell Through rate will be close to 100%! Richard
