Re: [Glencook-fans] Darkwar is up for pre-order
Any word on the next Garrett or Else Tage books? --- On Tue, 6/2/09, Marc Rikmenspoel <marcrik@gmail.com> wrote: From: Marc Rikmenspoel <marcrik@gmail.com> Subject: Re: [Glencook-fans] Darkwar is up for pre-order To: "Glen Cook: Science Fiction/Fantasy Author" <glencook-fans@mailman.xmission.com> Date: Tuesday, June 2, 2009, 12:36 PM Amazon also has The Return of the Black Company (probably an omnibus of Bleak Seasons and She is the Darkness) set for September 15. They have a listing for AEUWD buried away, because they like B&N probably gave up on it. But in another couple of weeks the book will have gone from the Nightshade warehouse to distributors and to actual bookstores and online sites. As to Darkwar, I recently found the last of the three original books I needed to complete my set, so I'll soon read the original paperbacks. I look forward to it! Glen said in his interview on Pat's Fantasy Hotlist that the third Else Tage book was delivered to Tor, and is awaiting publication. There's no publication date yet announced, afaik. Cook said he is writing the 4th Tage book, and is also writing the 13th Garrett book (which is known to be under contact), and he is also (re)writing the last Dread Empire book, to pick up where An Ill Fate Marshalling leftoff. None of these has a publication date either. On Tue, Jun 2, 2009 at 1:44 PM, jimi bowman <psychward58@yahoo.com> wrote:

Time for another group prayer for Mr. Cook's health. -- Michael Llaneza maserati@speakeasy.net
It is great to hear he is coming out with a new Garrett novel! Honestly I've never heard of most of his other series, you guys are very informative! A piece of advice? Track down the other books. You'll probably like them. All of them share the gritty humour of the Garrett novels, but most are a bit darker. Um, make that most are much darker. You know how tall men are called "Shorty" and bald men "Curly"? Well the first of the Black Company novels introduces someone like that whose name is Mercy. But in amongst the darkness is mixed the sharp wit that makes Cook's books worth reading. That, and the characters. In most of the series even some of the two-dimensional characters get slowly expanded out to become real people (I'm thinking "Raven" here - and how he changes from his introduction and evolves until we learn most of his truths in The Silver Spike). Garrett is good, but you'll thank yourself if you start at the start of one of his other series and start reading. Or not - I find Cook seems to be a "Love him" or not writer. Richard
I hope this isn't taken as spam or abusing the the mailing list in any way. Several people on this list have bought books from me over the last couple of years. I used to sell quite a bit on ebay but they seem to spend most of their time trying to find new ways to piss me off. I first started reading Cook about 15 years ago. I like all of his stuff but some things more than others. I started collecting him wherever I could find him and got a bit carried away. I am one of those people who tend to get obsessive about their collections. I have recieved the ULTIMATUM from "She Who Must Be Obeyed". I have to clear some of my books out as she is redecorating the place. I have several copies of just about everything Glen has written except for "Sung in Blood". Most are good sound reading copies, some are some are in collectible condition. I even have 1 or 2 copies of most of the short stories in their original magazines. If you are looking for something in particular just let me know what it is and what you think is a fair price (if it's not totally absurd I'll probably take it). If you are a collector as opposed to just a reader I have an item or two that may be of interest, including an Uncorrected Proof of "Passage at Arms". My name is Richard Gruver if you would like to check my eBay feedback my seller name is da-pack-rat. Thank You
