The Murderbot Diaries is my comfort read!! For those of you who like audio, they picked a very good VA to read the series.

The series takes place in a world that he shares with fellow author Ian Cameron Esslemont.  They are archeologists and anthropologists who created the world and many of the characters during their role-playing game sessions.  They have both completed series in the setting, I believe totalling 16 books, and both have other series in the world in progress as well as several stand-alone books.
