So the other day I stumbled over a three book series called "Dread Empire's Fall". No, it wasn't by Cook, but on the off chance it was licensed or something I picked it.
It's a space opera. Oh, the books are nice - plenty of character development mixed in with fleets going boom, but it's closer to the Sten books than anything written by Cook. Lots of twists and interesting setup, but not what I was looking for.
Cool. Thanks for the recommendation. I liked Walter Jon Williams' "Aristoi" pretty well so I'll have to try this series. I'm currently reading a trilogy by Brent Weeks that starts with "The Way of Shadows" that is pretty good. It's fantasy, and somewhat dark, but with a bit more of the heroic style than Cook. Weeks isn't afraid to kill off a character or two, when appropriate, which reminds me of Cook. Steve
