FOTD -- May 01, 2007 (No Rating) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: Today's image lies in the parent fractal that results when the formula Z^(sqrt(2))+C is iterated 77 levels down the logarithmic ladder. At this profound depth, the formula creates a Mandeloid with its west end facing northeast and the east half of its main bay cut off. Today's scene is located far out on a prominent filament extending out NE from the large period-2 main bud. Since I spent most of the day enjoying the weather and doing little else, I could not name or rate today's image. But it is still a rather pleasant one to view, as long as one does not spend too much time thinking about it. The render time of 6-3/4 minutes is true on my ancient P133, a machine so old it would be best studied by an archaeologist. It was a beautiful spring day here at Old Fractal Central, from where the FOTD was posted for 9 years and where the old fractal cats, Thomas and Tippy, are still thriving. Clear blue skies, gentle breezes and a temperature of 82F 28C made things near perfect. I will be here until this Friday, while my sister, who moved here when I left, is visiting friends in Wisconsin. The old fractal cats spent the morning wondering why they see so little of me nowadays. Then they went out to the holly thicket, where they lurked all afternoon. They fully appreciated their evening treat of tuna. I will be pretty much unoccupied this week here at old FC, while Fractal Lady tends to business back at New FC This will give me lots of time to do nothing but find fractals, but I just might waste a good part of that spare time doing nothing.
