FOTD -- November 23, 2009 (Rating 6) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: There is no FOTD for November 22. The reason -- another Satur- day antiquing expedition. But FL picked up a 600-dollar clock in perfect working order for 55 dollars, so the day was not a total loss. The FOTD for Nov 22 was a total loss however, and the loss can only partially be made up for with today's FOTD for Nov 23. Today's image is a scene very deep in the East Valley of the Mandelbrot set that results when quadratic and cubic elements are combined in a certain way with the AllNewDivideBrot formula. The image is mostly cubic, though the number of elements surroun- ding the minibrot increases in a rather irregular was as the minibrot itself is neared. I see rings of 3,6,9,12,18,etc elements, all of them without the discontinuities that usually spoil such mixtures of exponents, but none of this truly earns the rating of a 6. The name "Fractalish Image" says it all. The calculation time of 5-1/4 minutes is surprisingly brief for a scene of such high magnitude. The fractal cats were mildly discontented on both days, while I was more satisfied on Sunday than on Saturday. The next FOTD will be posted in 24 hours.
