FOTD -- April 02, 2010 (Rating 7) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: There is not much to be said about today's image, which takes a full half-hour to calculate even on my fireball 2000mhz machine. It's a very deep scene, showing a minibrot on a filament extending from a larger minibrot on a larger filament extending from the southwest shore line of the third bud out the negative X-axis of the M-set. The rating of a 7 was largely earned by the extreme magnitude. The name "Mandelbrot Scene" is a simple description. The magnitude demands arbitrary precision math, which makes the image a very slow one. I leave it to the individual fractal fan to decide whether the result is worth the effort. By far the best way to view the image is to view it in finished form on the FOTD web site at: <http://www.Nahee.com/FOTD/> An almost summer-like day prevailed here at Fractal Central on Thursday, with totally cloud-free skies. The temperature of 79F 26C kept the fractal cats content, despite the fact that the afternoon sun is now getting higher in the sky and no longer covers their entire window shelf. Actually, I feel a bit sorry for the new fractal cats, who unlike the old fractal cats did for so many years, do not get to go outside and explore a holly thicket. (We have no thicket at New FC.) But the new guys are happy enough indoors, and with traffic, hawks, coyotes, black bears, feral cats, etc. in the area, they are much safer not going outside.
