FOTD 30-11-09 (Quartic and a Pint [7])
FOTD -- November 30, 2009 (Rating 7) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: While contemplating the mysterious rectangle in one of the Z^2.003 Julia sets, I wondered if any Z^4.003 sets also have rectangles. I found no rectangles, but I did find a rather interesting image, which appears as today's FOTD. Well, actually it's one of the Z^4.0017... Julia sets that appears in the image. I found the exact exponent with the evolver. But regardless of how the image was found, it's certainly worth the measly 10 seconds required to render it from the included parameter file. The rating of a 7 is just about right for the image. The name "Quartic and a Pint" is pure whimsy. I gave the image a square format because the nearly circular Julia set doesn't fit very well into the standard full-screen 4x3 rectangle. Those who do not have a spare 10 seconds to run the parameter file may view the finished image on the FOTD web site at: <http://home.att.net/~Paul.N.Lee/FotD/FotD.html> Full sunshine and a temperature of 61F 16C made the fractal cats deliriously happy here at Fractal Central on Sunday. Little work to do made me happy. One of those latin bodice-rippers on TV made FL happy, while I avoided the TV room. Since things are going so well, I'll make no promises of continued good times, but if nothing unusually bad happens, the next FOTD will be posted in 24 hours. Until then, take care, and I saw on the internet that Richard Dawkins has just proved the existence of God, and will soon announce his discovery.
