FOTD -- July 19, 2003 (Rating 6) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: Today's image, which is found in the fractal created when 2 negative parts of Z^(0.75) are combined with 2 negative parts of Z^(-0.75), appears a bit rusty to me. I named it "A Rusted Minibrot" because of the eight rust-colored lobes surrounding the central midget. The parent fractal is a three-bayed thing with X-axis symmetry. Like most fractals whose formulae contain negative powers of Z, today's image is very sensitive to changes in the bailout radius. As the bailout is raised, the scene soon 'evaporates', leaving a blank black screen consisting of 'inside' areas. Several of the inside fills create an image on this blank screen, but none equals the level of today's image, which was rendered and colored in the old-fashioned 'normal' way. If I had given the coloring a bit more effort, today's image might have rated a 7. As it is, a 6 is the best rating I could give. The image is worth a look, though it's nothing that hasn't been seen before. They sat on the porch for an hour or so, watching the rain and wishing the grass were dry. Then they came indoors to demand their consolation treats. Tuna did the trick. Today is starting cloudy and cooler, but dry. If things go as they should, the duo will have a much better day. For me it will be a pleasant enough day -- if I can avoid any serious work that is.
