FW: The Google logo includes fractal motifs today!
################################################################ - Please go to at least the 3rd or 4th or later Google result page of thumbnail images and view these images. The images on the 1st couple of pages are being over-viewed and causing *severe* problems for the owners of the pages. - Or wait until Wednesday February 4th or later to do the search described below. - Hal Lane ######################### # hallane@earthlink.net # ######################### -----Original Message----- From: Hal Lane [mailto:hallane@earthlink.net] Sent: Tuesday, February 03, 2004 3:55 PM Subject: The Google logo includes fractal motifs today! The Google logo includes fractal motifs today! I first learned that Google's main page logo changes when I saw the pictures they added around the letters of 'Google' on Thanksgiving and the Fourth of July. I learned that they occasionally have whimsical additions to their logo when I observed monkeys and bananas on one occasion (see below). Today Feb 3, '04 at 7:00am EST I found fractals worked into their logo. The 'G' in 'Google' is nestled in the lake of a Mandelbrot set, 'L' is from Seahorse Valley and the equation Z(n+1) = Z(n)^2 + C appears -- among other items. And the word 'Google' is clickable! Clicking it does a search on the words: julia fractals in Google's image data base and finds 1,270 images -- many of which appear quite interesting. Also, you can do the search yourself: - go to Google's main page (regardless of whether the Google logo has fractal pictures added to it) - click on the word 'Images' above the search text box - type in the search terms: julia fractals - receive a page from Google with many thumbnail images on it. - click on an image to see the *page* that the image is on (in the bottom subwindow) - click on See full-size image. - (in the top subwindow) to see the image if it is not in the bottom subwindow - note that there are many pages of images (see the list of pages at the bottom of the page) - Please go to at least the 3rd or 4th or later Google result page of thumbnail images and view these images. The images on the 1st couple of pages are being over-viewed and causing severe problems for the owners of the pages. - Or wait until Wednesday February 4th to do the search defined above. ################################################################ --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. The search result now brings up only three pages contrary to the last time I clicked (about 20 hours ago), so Google staff seems to have realized (probably by receiving lots of not too friendly mails) they're causing problems for image site owners. ...and since this is about Gaston Julia's birthday: http://www-gap.dcs.st-and.ac.uk/~history/Mathematicians/Julia.html Gerald

Actually, the search values have changed from "julia fractals" to the now "gaston julia". Makes a big difference in what one retrieves. Later, P.N.L. ------------------------------------------------- http://home.att.net/~Paul.N.Lee/PNL_Fractals.html http://www.Nahee.com/Fractals/
