Re: [Fractint] Update to SDL version
Tony,
For several releases now, I've had crashes on startup (Windows version) when I try to change the fractint.cfg or sstools.ini files.
Are you using a text editor to edit these files? I use Notepad with no problems.
Or, if I get to rendering point, if I ask for a new render size via Del, I get a crash; or if I try to use a short-cut key like f7 to bypass Del, it also crashes.
I can't explain this. The video interface is not as robust as it should be. (duh!) Jonathan
Tony, Jonathan, I also had trouble with "FractSDL" after editing fractint.cfg . I conjectured that there might have been a problem of the text being encoded with some other standard then ASCII, say: UTF-8, etc... I just went back to the original fractint.cfg . - Hal Lane ######################## # hallane@earthlink.net ######################## -----Original Message----- From: Fractint [mailto:fractint-bounces@mailman.xmission.com] On Behalf Of Jonathan Osuch Sent: Thursday, October 26, 2017 7:25 PM To: Fractint and General Fractals Discussion <fractint@mailman.xmission.com> Subject: Re: [Fractint] Update to SDL version Tony,

Is there a Linux 32 bit version that I might try . Preferably as a package . On 27/10/2017 15:47, Harold Lane wrote:

I've edited fractint.cfg, using the basic text editor (mousepad) that's part of XFCE. Didn't cause any problems. On 10/26/2017 04:47 PM, Harold Lane wrote:

I just tried it here (Linux version). F7, F2, Shift-F10 (my 1920x1080x256 addition to the config file) all worked just fine. Selecting video modes using Del worked, too. Even the 1920x1080x24-bit True Color one I added works. Running the marksmandpower in the 40Kx53K disk video mode just to see how it turns out. Hasn't been a drag on the rest of the system. -- David W. Jones gnome@hawaii.rr.com authenticity, honesty, community http://dancingtreefrog.com

And now the XFractint SDL window is doing nothing. I pressed Tab, got text screen showing progress. Pressed F7, not the "Next" text screen. After that, the window stopped responding to keystrokes or doing anything. Then, after a few moments, it resumed responding to keystrokes. Have no idea what happened there, but marksmandpower is still cranking away. -- David W. Jones gnome@hawaii.rr.com authenticity, honesty, community http://dancingtreefrog.com
I only ever edit the cfg and ini files with Notepad, yes, and save them as their proper extensions, ANSI encoding. On 27 October 2017 at 09:43, david <gnome@hawaii.rr.com> wrote:
