FOTD 20-02-12 (Filamentary Chaos [7.5])
FOTD -- February 20, 2012 (Rating 7.5) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: Today's image takes us into the lowlands, the land of Z^(1.333) to be exact. We check the area 1333 levels up the complex- logarithmic hyper-ladder, where we find a distorted Mandeloid facing southwest. This Mandeloid is easily recognized as a distorted Mandelbrot set, but its straight main stem, pointing southsouthwest, has grown to an incredible length, terminating at a distance around 8 from the origin. Today's image lies well out on this stem. I named the image "Filamentary Chaos" because of the zig-zagging network of filaments all through it. I have not yet checked the tiny minibrot at the center, and probably never will, since I doubt that much of interest lies down there. The rating of a 7-1/2 indicates that I feel the image could have been improved with some more work, but due to an attack of laziness, I let it go as is. The calculation time of 1-1/2 minutes is reasonable; viewing the finished image on one of the web sites is more reasonable. Save time and maybe a little money by viewing the pre-calculated image on the official FOTD web site at: <http://www.crosscanpuzzles.com/Archives.html> Then increase your pleasure by viewing it in the glories of high definition at: <http://www.emarketingiseasy.com/TESTS/FOTD/jim_muths_fotd.html> The original FOTD site may be accessed at: <http://www.Nahee.com/FOTD/> The day began with a few clouds here at Fractal Central, but by noon the clouds vanished, leading to a splendid afternoon of total sunshine, which brought out the best in the fractal cats. Nicholas set up shop on the new lamp table, which he has now made into a cat table, while Cassie curled up on the scratching post next to Nicholas. FL and I had a typical day. At lunch, we almost got involved in a discussion about the addictions plaguing western culture, but common sense ultimately prevailed and the subject changed to the weather. The next FOTD will be posted in 24 hours; most likely it will appear as scheduled. Until next time, take care, and don't even think of trying to list all the addictions afflicting our 'western' society.
