Spam is one thing, but when I opened my e-mail box last evening after a 3-day absence, I found over 750 spams, many with a 70KB attachment waiting to be downloaded. Since I have a slow dial-up connection, each attachment takes almost one minute to download.<<<
Yeah, this is Blaster worm, or whatever Worm-de-Jour. The company I work for has been getting over 500 a day, but the virus checker on our email server deletes the attachment before it gets to the end user. I would suggest signing up with an ISP that has similar software. Better yet, find an ISP that lets you optionally view your email on the web. That way you can view a list of all your messages on a web site and either read them, or delete them without reading them. You can still use your regular email client. Personally, I think computer users should have to pass a 'drivers license' test before they're allowed on the internet. Nick

On Saturday, an email admin I know of reported receiving Blaster emails at a rate of 20-30 PER MINUTE, 120-180 per hour, about 2000-4000+ per day ... David gnome@hawaii.rr.com
Hmmmm! A certain email admin needs to attend classes in remedial arithmetic. :-) John W. ----- Original Message ----- From: "David Jones" <gnome@hawaii.rr.com> To: <fractint@mailman.xmission.com> Sent: Thursday, August 21, 2003 10:43 PM Subject: Re: [Fractint] FOTD 21-08-03 (Wicked Screensaver [5])

No, the person (me) who did the quick calculation from the figures the admin provided needs to remember math. 30/min x 60 mins/hour x 24 hours works out to (David, use the calculator this time!) = 43,200/day. Our mail server at the office only had to handle 27,000 emails today. I don't know how many turned out to be worms, but it was too many for many of our users.
