Yes, a bummer indeed. These irregular postings must be giving Paul a fit. There was no FOTD on August 11. But salvation is at hand. Save the 'Ringworld' discussion in text format with a .par extension in your Fractint directory, and run it as you would any parameter file. The Ringworld image will appear within one minute. And as for the next FOTD (FOEFD) image -- it will appear the morning of Saturday, August 14. Jim (I am still here) M.

Besides the irregular dates and times of Jim's postings, there are other factors involved: 1. The FOTD web pages are done by hand, as I have always done so for over seven years now. 2. They are created when I finally get time to check my email and can generate, write, and upload the files. 3. I have recently taken on a new contract position which keeps me away from updating the web pages until late at night. Oh, no problem, we can share you with non-Fractal people if they're paying you enough. ;-) David gnome@hawaii.rr.com

Would it be cool for FOTD to have its own list? I am just thinking that not only can us fractal types dip in when we want, but that also if FOTD had a dedicated list then many more people might see it than just the Fractint list. -----Original Message----- From: fractint-bounces+peter=getitonbangagong.biz@mailman.xmission.com [mailto:fractint-bounces+peter=getitonbangagong.biz@mailman.xmission.com] On Behalf Of John Lewis Sent: 13 August 2004 18:56 To: Fractint and General Fractals Discussion Subject: Re: [Fractint] Re: FOTD 12-08-04 (Ringworld [5]) On Thu, 12 Aug 2004 23:25:54 -0500, Paul N. There kind of already is one, which is basically how the 'PhiloFractal' discussion list came into creation: To subscribe, e-mail: philofractal-subscribe@lists.fractalus.com For other commands, e-mail: philofractal-help@lists.fractalus.com Jim used to do a lot more "waxing philosophic", with his "armchair philosophy", in each of the FOTDs. This caused some off-topic discussions that some did not care for. So another group was formed during the last few days of January, 1999. And Jim started sending his FOTDs to that group as well, with several of those postings having an extended amount of content (which is what I use for the web site pages). Those that wished to post ongoing comments about non-fractal issues, occassionally brought forth by some of the FOTDs, could then do so within this other group without offending anyone else. Ah... I seem to already get it as part of the current list. So I won't need to opt in to another list to get it twice. Unless of course it becomes available only from the above list, then I have the option to take it or not as and when I please.

I have no opinion one way or another about whether FOTD should be posted elsewhere, but I think it's great that Jim posts it here. He has probably single handedly maintained interest in this list and in Fractint by hist regular posts. I think FOTD is a welcome and valued feature of the fractint list! Tim
