I agree that DOSbox will work on most systems (Windows or Linux) ... I like the WinXP in Virtualbox approach best because of the built in video extension in VirtualBox Guest Extensions, and the fact that I can manage and control the machine over remote desktop from another machine ... it can run in the true background without me having to worry I will do something on my desktop machine to interfere with it / or it with me. One caveat with DOSBox or any of the other methods is video mode support. To get the most out of fractint, the environment needs to have high resolution VESA video modes (if not using disk video). I have even installed DOSBox on my Android phone and run Fractint, that that that arrangement is very usable (I had to install a different keyboard to get anything to work).

I know we have touched on this subject before. Not bad that we are revisiting it again now. I'll be interested to see what folks come up with.
