A strange and rare new kind of fractal symmetry object has been found!
Lee: You are correct. It is a new symmetry. What you have found is a collision of two quadratic midgets. In this case, only the stems are in contact. They bump together head-on and shoot out sideways. Try gradually reducing the value of the real(p1) parameter to -3.69. The midgets will move in from the edges of the frame and start to merge, while billowing outwards sideways. As you continue reducing the value, it will make clearer what is happening here. BTW, there are some really interesting smaller midgets lurking invisibly around the edges of the frame. Jim M.
(The following refers to a zoom into the parent image of this FOTD.)
The following par illustrates a new kind of symmetry object that I've never seen before. Like a spiral, it goes on forever. If you zoom into the symmetry point at the center, you will NEVER reach a mandelbrot midget (or a dry lake).
(But Fractint will display some weird artifacts if you zoom deeper than 5.E+8.)
Note the two midgets on the x-axis near the left and right edges, and how they point towards each other. This I have seen several times before, but there has always been a symmetrical lake at the center. This time, there is no lake - just this point singularity! In all the MandelbrotMix images I've seen before, I've never encountered anything like this!
