FOTD 07-11-03 (Midget Starburst [8])
FOTD -- November 07, 2003 (Rating 8) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: Today's image, which combines portions of Z^(-0.75) and Z^(-7), is an 'evaporated' one. The escape radius has been increased to such an extreme value (one-googol) that basically all the points have been trapped. The trapped points do interesting things in their trapped state however, and these things form the basis of today's image. The image consists entirely of 'bof61' inside fill, which colors the trapped points according to which iteration comes closest to the origin. In today's scene, this fill is by far the best of the inside fill options. It works so well, in fact, that I rated the resulting image at an 'exceptional' 8. In its unevaporated state, the parent fractal consists of an oversized Mandeloid with a twisting fractal trail extending far to the northeast. Today's scene is located just beyond a crossroads on a filament extending from a sub-bud of the main bud of the parent. After a bit of consideration, I decided to name the image "Midget Starburst" I see no real reason for the name other than the fact that it sounds good. The render time of 9 minutes on my old worn-out 80586 machine is within the realm of reason. But the minute or so required to download the completed GIF image from: <http://home.att.net/~Paul.N.Lee/FotD/FotD.html> or from: <http://sdboyd.dyndns.org/~sdboyd/fotd/index.html> is even more reasonable. Weather conditions have deteriorated greatly here at Fractal Central over the past two days. Steady rain all day Thursday kept the aging fractal cats confined to the indoors, where they passed the day on their window shelves, waiting futilely for the sun to appear. The temperature of 63F 17C was mild enough, but fractal cats do not like wet ears. Today is starting cloudy and a bit cooler. If it stays dry, the dynamic duo might get in some quality outdoor time. My day will be good enough, especially if the work is finished by early afternoon. But to finish, I must first start. Until next time, take care, and see you soon.
