FOTD -- November 20, 2006 (No Rating) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: Today's smooth fractal image was created by combining Z^3 and Z^0.3, then adding C. The resulting parent fractal resembles a distorted quadratic Mandeloid, twisted in such a way as to give a hint of the cubic Mandeloid. Today's scene is located rather deep in the lopsided East Valley of the parent fractal. It lies near the coast on the southern shoreline of the valley. The central midget sparkles in the darkness like a jewel in a shaft of sunlight. I promptly named the image "A Smooth Jewel". The smoothness of the surrounding spiral elements also helped inspire the name. Unsure of the impression the image might have on others, I gave it no rating, but if it had been rated, the rating would have been something like a 6. The render time of 16-1/2 minutes may be cut to 12 minutes by calculating the image with the passes set to 'g' instead of 't'. But when this is done, one or two minor and unimportant bits of detail are passed over. Continued cloudy and chilly weather here at Fractal Central on Sunday was of no concern to the fractal cats, who were in unusu- ally playful moods. They passed most of the day chasing each other through every nook and cranny of Fractal Central. My day was acceptable, which, in my hogtied state, leaves much to be desired.
